Christenings at St John's Church

Everyone wants to celebrate the arrival of a new life! It has been traditional for many years to bring your baby to church for baptism [Christening]. However, there are options.

Baptism is all about receiving the gift of Jesus; his forgiveness, cleansing and a new life in God. It’s not just for babies, but for anyone embarking on a new life of faith in Jesus Christ. It is one the things Jesus told us to do to mark our commitment to following him. When you meet with the vicar he will want to hear your own thoughts on this.

Thanksgiving. If you are more interested in celebrating your baby and expressing your thanks for them, you may prefer a thanksgiving service which makes less demands and promises from parents and godparents to follow God.
